COACHING IS FUN…damental! |
Some of the things I try to teach my athletes is how to win with PRIDE, lose with GRACE, and compete and train with INTENSITY! This I learned from my father.
As a coach, I have been very fortunate to have some very fine people come to our club and together we have worked to make their dreams a reality. Many developed into the great athletes of our club, our state, and our region and - in many cases – our nation!
In the past 7 years, I have coached 91 high school all-Americans, 10 high school NATIONAL champions, 15 high school NATIONAL runner-ups, 5 national class record holders, 29 STATE champions and 23 STATE runners-up! I can’t help but wonder… who will be next? Maybe you?
In that same 7 years I have helped 63 student athletes receive college scholarships in the throwing events.
I am a certified USATF level 1 and level 2 coach. I am also a USATF level 2 instructor for Coaches Education in the throws.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I had the opportunity of growing up in the great town of Merrillville, Indiana under the coaching tutelage of my father. My father had been a scholarship athlete at Indiana University but always found time to coach my brother Larry and I in the fine art of sport. Dad’s gone now, but I appreciate all he taught us.
Soon,
I earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Georgia! My greatest
pleasure was to return home for a meet and throw over 60’ in front of all my family
and friends. That was excitement! If you look on my site, you might find a short
video of one of my big throws for those days!
While at Georgia, I completed my degree in Economics and held both the school records in the shot put and the javelin!
THROW 1 DEEP CLUB
Although I am in sales as a profession, my life has centered much on developing young talent into the future throwers of our nation. Helping young men and women raise their sights towards college and a profession has been part of the goals of our club!
Much of our club’s funding has come out of my own pocket and I have tried to generate some addition funds for the club through the sale of athletic gear, some of which we manufacture ourselves! If you get a chance take a look at our club store and if you have any suggestions, please let me know!
NEW IN 2007 Throw1deep club become an official Non Profit organization!! Your donations will be Tax deductible! We use your donations to help purchase equipment for the club and to help kids to travel to out of town meets that otherwise they financially would not be able to attend.
MY FAMILY
One
of the nicest things my brother Larry did for me was to introduce me to my
future wife Kim. Kim was a scholarship athlete in college and the women’s
distance coach at the University of South Carolina that also employed my
brother as a Throws Coach.
Together, Kim and I have two children Jay (8) and Hannah (6). They definitely have the mark of future athletes!
THE FUTURE
If you
are interested in joining our club or in becoming a club sponsor, please feel
free to write me a note and we can discuss how you might like to become
involved.
